Thanksgiving Wedding

Ariana & Alexus have known each other for a long time. They have grown into themselves together in one form or another. Their lives and families have grown together. They planned to have a little surprise backyard wedding for a Thanksgiving dinner but as these things often do, the party grew with the love around them. As the lights twinkled on their patio, I noticed a Pride flag on a neighboring apartment. Their apartment was beautifully decorated. Those closest to them were seated in the living room or standing in the kitchen and meticulously following COVID guidelines to keep everyone safe. Important matriarchs light the unity candles for each side and the whole room erupted in a roar of support during the affirmation of their marriage and the pronouncement of their marriage.

Gothic Wedding Style

A few weeks back I traveled to Dripping Springs, Texas just barely outside of Austin. The area has been coined the wedding capitol of Texas. Ma Maison a wedding venue of truly gothic proportions allowed us to take advantage of their beautiful ceremony sites. Game of Thrones was the inspiration. What a wonderful way to usher in Fall 2021. What you’ll see in this video by Silver Bear Creative is the work of Marion Matrimony Events, Sweet Dey bakery, Unbridaled boutique and Silk & Glow hair and makeup. I am there too in the photos/videos doing my normal officiant responsibilities and having fun getting to know everyone. Photos on this page are by Riley Glenn or by Silver Bear Creative.

Elopements / Handfasting

Several people have driven in from Louisiana for their inclusive weddings in Texas with me as their officiant. I am so pleased to learn that I am often the first vendor they book. I was lucky enough to spend time with this great couple through our telephone pre-marital sessions. Using the Twogether in Texas marriage education certificate of completion, they saved $60 on their marriage license and were able to get their marriage license when they arrived at their hotel. We did learn that Dallas county had limited marriage license applications to residents only. They made a drive to Gregg county in Longview to put in their application and pick up their license. Marriage licenses in Texas can be obtained in any county, it need not be the county of the wedding. These two wanted a private ceremony. And we did just that, they came to a private ranch with just me and the photographer, Jen from WeirdoWeddings. On a hot summer morning, we found a cool spot in the shade. They had ordered handfasting cords from Portugal that arrived just in time. The couple exchanged rings and completed their vows with each loop of their cord. And finally they tied the knot using a magic knot handfasting.

What will you say

I come from a religious tradition and schools that value inclusive language. I pride myself on religious and non-religious language that thinks about the possibilities and works to include them. Your wedding must include your intentions to get married and a pronouncement of your marriage but everything else is up to us. I use the pronouns and words for your fiancee that tell me to use. If something doesn’t fit you as individuals or your relationship, we can change it. If you have concerns about what I’ll say or even if you just want to know what happens during the wedding ceremony, I’m happy to talk you through the wedding and after retainer to give you a draft of your ceremony.
